The KlubDeAspirers

KlubDeAspirers is a registered social and professional club born from friendship, solidarity, and a shared belief that we rise higher together.

What began as a group of close friends coming together in grief became a lasting institution — one built on cooperation, tolerance, and the collective aspiration to be better. Today, the Klub stands as a vibrant community of professionals, entrepreneurs, and changemakers united by those same founding values.

Registered in compliance with Part C of the Companies & Allied Matters Act, the Klub operates from its Club House at 6, Glover Road, Ebute Metta, Lagos — a space that has hosted decades of fellowship, growth, and celebration.

Friendship & Solidarity

Rooted in the bonds of genuine friendship, the Klub celebrates togetherness across tribe, class, and religion.

We exist to inspire members to aspire higher — in career, character, and community contribution.

To promote unity and the spirit of friendliness among all members of the Klub, irrespective of tribe, class, or religion.

A History Built on Friendship

From a tragic loss in 1974 to over five decades of fellowship — this is the story of KlubDeAspirers.

1974

The Spark of Brotherhood

On 10th November 1974, a young man named Bayo Adesanya was involved in a ghastly motor accident along Broad Street, near CMS Bookshop, Lagos Island. He passed away three days later on 13th November 1974.

His passing brought a circle of close friends together at Mainland Hotel, Oyingbo, Ebute-Metta to organise his burial. The warmth, unity, and full participation of those friends during the burial ceremonies inspired the idea of forming a Social Club — a permanent institution to keep that spirit of brotherhood alive.

Nov 1974

Formal Inauguration

After the burial, friends converged again at Mainland Hotel, Oyingbo. On Sunday, 17th November 1974, it was unanimously agreed that the friendship should be formalised into a Social Club.

A series of meetings followed. The initial suggested name was "Club 74" — chosen to honour the year of Late Bayo Adesanya's passing.

Oct 1975

The Name is Chosen

At a general meeting on 19th October 1975, held at Griffith Street (now Borno Way), Ebute-Metta — at the residence of Chief Olu Ajisegbede — members gathered to decide on the club's official name.

Two names were proposed: "Onward Social Circle" (suggested by Mr. Kunle Ogunnaike) and "De Aspirers Club" (suggested by Mr. Tayo Saibu). With 8 members present, a vote was cast — 5 to 3 in favour of De Aspirers Club. The name was unanimously adopted, later evolving into the beloved Klub De Aspirers.

1975–

Growth & Early Years

To reduce costs in the early years, meetings were moved to members' residences. The Klub grew steadily, with new members joining, a Constitution drafted, and structures put in place to govern the growing community.
